Les centrales \u00e9lectriques transforment diff\u00e9rentes sources d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie naturelle en \u00e9nergie \u00e9lectrique afin d&rsquo;alimenter en \u00e9lectricit\u00e9 les consommateurs, particuliers ou industriels relativement lointains. Le r\u00e9seau \u00e9lectrique permet de transporter puis de distribuer l&rsquo;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 jusqu&rsquo;aux consommateurs.<\/p>\n<p>There are 02 types of network:<\/p>\n<p>Transmission network (carries energy from generation sources to the HV\/HV transformer, also known as a source substation)<\/p>\n<p>The distribution network (carries energy from the HV\/HV transformer to the end customer)<\/p>\n<p>With the exception of photovoltaic power plants (still not very widespread...), electricity is generated by an alternator driven in rotation by a turbine (in a few rare cases by a stationary diesel engine).<\/p>\n<p>The type of turbine then defines the type of power plant:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>A steam turbine in a fossil-fired or nuclear power plant;<\/p>\n<p>A combustion turbine (commonly, but incorrectly, referred to as a gas turbine) in a thermal power plant;<\/p>\n<p>A hydraulic turbine in a hydroelectric or tidal power plant;<\/p>\n<p>A wind turbine is also a type of turbine.<\/p>\n<p>ENEO case study: Hydraulic turbine<\/p>\n<h4>Hydroelectric power station<\/h4>\n<p>L&rsquo;\u00e9nergie hydraulique est depuis longtemps une solution mise en \u0153uvre dans la production d&rsquo;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 (appel\u00e9e aussi hydro\u00e9lectricit\u00e9) car elle utilise une \u00e9nergie renouvelable.<br \/>\u00c0 un \u00e9tranglement des rives d&rsquo;un cours d&rsquo;eau, un\u00a0barrage\u00a0est \u00e9rig\u00e9 qui cr\u00e9e une retenue d&rsquo;eau. Au pied de ce barrage, on installe des\u00a0turbines\u00a0reli\u00e9es \u00e0 des\u00a0alternateurs.
